Attending a plein aire oil painting workshop several years ago in Northern
New Mexico prompted me to change my life. I relocated to Santa Fe to
follow my life long passion for painting and now I am inspired to create
in this land that I live.
I am awed by the simple qualities of the trees I paint. The beauty of their
luminous and varied colors or lack thereof and the graceful forms and
textures they possess enliven my experience with them. Their graphic
nature allows me to approach them in a modern yet profound way.
The context in which I compose offers an unexpected aesthetic that may
seem unknown yet feel very familiar. My vision is often intimate and
when necessary I give the environment of these trees praise, for it is their
surroundings that make my work complete. The boundaries of the surface
I keep are purely physical while my intention is a story told far beyond
the edges of my canvas.
Walk into the trees and look for me.
See through the eyes of something different and you will find me.
